Sunday Funday with Buffalo Chicken Wings

My NFL Boyfriend is playing in tonight’s big game. Oh, How I love me some Peyton! However, the Super Bowl will come second to Downton Abbey. When Downton comes on at nine, we will be changing the channel. I (We) are officially obsessed.

Since “Him” leaves tomorrow and I start the Whole 30, I have been racking my brain on what we will indulge in today. Wings are always a staple. We typically keep it simple. Here is how we do it:


  • 20 wings
  • 1/3 c. hot Sauce of your choice (We like to use Franks)
  • 2 tsp garlic, minced
  • 1 Tbsp butter (This isn’t Whole30 approved. I wonder how Coconut Oil would work.)


Grab a steamer basket and a medium pot. Add enough water to reach the bottom of the basket.

Steam the wings for 20 minutes. Place the wings on a cooling rack (make sure to put a pan underneath). Let the wings hang out in the fridge for at least an hour.


Preheat the oven to 450. Once it reaches the right temp, pop in the oven for 40 minutes , flipping halfway through.

While the wings are in the oven, you can prepare the sauce. Melt the butter in a small bowl. Add the garlic and hot sauce. That is it!

Remove from the oven and toss in the sauce. Enjoy!

*Steaming is an important part of the process. It helps to release some of the fat, which leads to a crisper skin.

I don’t know what else will be on today’s food agenda, but Buffalo wings are a good place to start.
